Magar, Middle Hills, Nepal 19th Century Wood & metal Length: 26.5 cm. Provenance: Bob Brundage, CA, USA. A primitive shamanic mask from the Nepal’s Eastern Middle Hills, used by shamen for healing, ritual and initiation rites. The sharp razor-like teeth, emphasized with a metal set attached to the back, indicate this could be a “mashan” which are demonic vampire like entities that sometimes come into conflict with humans. | |||||||||||
